This is a fabulous late autumn break with great accommodation and food based at the Boletas Birdwatching Centre. Here we spend four comfortable nights exploring different areas each day with a particular focus on two highly sought after species, the Lammergeier and the Wallcreeper. We have excellent chances of finding these two enigmatic species and there are some excellent opportunities for photography too. Our local guide Dani Cazo knows this area very well indeed and you will be in great hands. Join us!
After meeting at Barcelona airport we shall travel to Huesca which is approximately a 3hr drive. In no time at all we will be in a huge steppe landscape looking for sandgrouse with good chances for several larks and raptors. By the afternoon, we will be searching for Eagle Owl, Black Wheatear and Blue Rock Thrush. Overnight Boletas Birdwatching Centre
Today we will visit Guara and Vadiello where among other birds Wallcreeper, Lammergeier and Alpine Accentor are almost guaranteed! Near Loporzano we will look for raptors particularly Bonelli´s Eagle, sadly one of the last surviving pairs in the central Pyrenees. We will also visit La Sotonera reservoir where we hope to find some of the first returning Cranes. Overnight Boletas Birdwatching Centre
We will drive to the French border for alpine specialities where our target species will be Snow Finch, Alpine Chough and Chamoix in a dramatic landscape of snowy peaks. On our return we will look for woodland birds such as Black Woodpecker and Cirl Bunting. Overnight Boletas Birdwatching Centre
Today we will explore the north bank of the Ebro Valley steppes. Our journey will begin early in the morning to Los Monegros where we hope to fine both Pin-tailed and Black–bellied Sandgrouse in good numbers. Little bustards are also here and we will attempt to find the very small population of Great Bustard that still remains in this part of Spain. Other species we will look for include Stone Curlew, Lesser Short-toed Lark, Thekla Lark and Calandra Lark. At the end of the day we will visit the famous nesting area of Dupont’s Lark. Overnight at Boletas Birdwatching Centre
En route back to Barcelona, time permitting, we will make a stop at Sariñena Lake where we may find among other birds, Bittern and Penduline Tit.
